Superior vena cava syndrome is a potential complication of thrombosis in hemodialysis catheters. However, the increased use of these intravascular catheters for hemodialysis in patients with uremia has seen the prevalence of this morbidity increase. We report a case of superior vena cava stenosis secondary to central venous catheter implantation in a patient undergoing hemodialysis. Early diagnosis of superior vena cava syndrome in emergency departments is important and can be made on the basis of clinical presentation, past medical history, enhanced chest computed tomography, and antegrade venography.
