Zhao Yi (1727-1814), a famous poet who was called "the three great poets in the period of Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, involved Lin Shuang- Wen Incident which took place in the 51st year of the Qianlong Reign (1786) in Taiwan as he attended to the matter in person with careful planning and preparation to suppress the rebellion and finally resigned his official post. He later incorporated personal experiences and what he saw and heard into his works, such as 14 topics consisting of 36 pieces of poems in Look Afar Into Taiwan from the Sea and Ode to On the Defense of Zhulou City, etc. in which his keen observation of the situation in Taiwan's coastal regions border as well as his objective and distinctive opinions and views can be seen from records of the process of seeking redress for Lin Shuang-Wen rebellion. Most of past studies probing Zhao focus on his studies on historical poetics, and Zhao's poetic sentiment with Taiwan by chance serves as the main idea in this research to delve into Zhao's influence on Taiwanese circles of literature, history and society during the period of Qianlong Reign.
