Background: According to data from the study "Prevalence of diseases among Mongolian elderly and their mental and social health status", retirement benefits are the sole source of income for 95.9 percent of Mongolian elders. In most cases, the majority of this income is spent for food and accommodation fees, meaning the elderly were not able to maintain a healthy and secure life. Several years had passed since the finalization of this study, so we aimed to study the current financial capability of Mongolian elders. Goal: To define the Financial Capability of Mongolian Elders. Methods: Research design was a nationwide cross-sectional survey, study population (n=2000) selected through multistage random cluster sampling from Ulaanbaatar city and central, southern, western, eastern regions. Results: The gender ratio for the subjects was 36.8% male and 63.2% female. The average life expectancy of the subjects was 67.04±6.7. Of all the subjects, 76.5% have no source of income besides retirement benefits, 11% work shortened hours, 7.3% work full-time, 5.2% are unemployed but actively searching for jobs. 51.7% have an income of up to 200$, 30.4% have an income of 200-300$, 10.6% have an income of 300-400$, 4.6% have an income of 400-500$, 2.5% have an income of 500$-1.000$, 0.2% have an income of more than 1.000$. 81.7% of Mongolian elderly citizens are living with an income of 300$ and less. 57% are capable of buying medical products while 43% are not. 11.6% said they were capable of buying luxury products. 27.6% said they have enough financial resources for an emergency. 89.2% of the subjects felt they needed more income and support to improve their financial status. Conclusion: Majority of the elderly need financial and social support when they face emergencies.
