A literary theory is very helpful to understand a piece of literature. This paper will introduce the theory of structuralism. This paper will then apply the theory of structuralism into five stories so that one can have a deeper understanding of the five stories. The five stories are Crook's (2000) (Retold) Tom Thumb, Pearce's (2007) The Squirrel Wife, Kingsbury's (2011) Brave Young Knight, Souci's (1989) (Retold) The Talking Eggs, and Shepard's (2007) One-Eye! Two-Eyes! Three-Eyes! A Very Grimm Fairy Tale. After that, some questions will be provided. A teacher can decide if he or she would like to use the questions. A teacher then can have one more way to utilize a story in the classroom.
