並列摘要

The purpose of this study is to research and document the importance of using storytelling as a tool for educating students in the classroom and how its application can also be used in educational exhibitions. An overview of storytelling will describe where storytelling came from, how it can support this type of exhibitions, and how viewers can learn from it. It also describes educational exhibitions and the process exhibition designers follow to create one. The primary purpose of this study is to choose a storytelling technique and exhibition design model that best suits the design of educational exhibitions and create a “Storytelling Model” to be applied in the concept development of an exhibition. Research collected for this study helped to develop a proposal of a new storytelling design model that will serve as a guide for designing exhibitions combining steps of storytelling and exhibition design models. The proposal took as example Ikat textiles to show how the use of the steps used in storytelling could be used as a guide during the first stage of the concept development and how with the help of this structure exhibitions could effectively enhance not only the viewers' experience but also their learning motivations, comprehension, and learning achievements. Through the use of Interpretative Phenomenology, the study surveyed four expert curators and interpreted their answers. The subjects for this study were selected based on their experience in exhibitions and their opinions were discussed and interpreted confirming the potential of storytelling as a technique to use during the concept development of educational exhibitions and arriving to the conclusion that by using this model, the exhibition team can arrive to a better understanding of how to divide the exhibition providing a road map for the team to follow creating a storyline through a story.
