Specified Strength and Conditioning Performance of Female Tennis Player in Different Age

Purpose: To compare the differences of specified strength and conditioning performance between female tennis players in different age. Methods: 124 Taiwanese female junior tennis players were included in this study, then assigned to group A (under-18), group B (under-16), and group C (under-14) according to participants' age. During the study, all participant took tennis-specified strength and conditioning tests in separate day. Descriptive statistical analyses were performed. One-way ANOVA was used to analyze the differences in specified strength and conditioning performance, significant level was set at 0.05. Results: In the result of grip strength, Shuttle run test and medicine ball throwing, there is significant difference between different age female junior tennis players; the performance of Group A and group B were significantly greater than the group C. In sit-and-reach test, group A was significantly greater than group B. In the 20m-sprint, vertical jump, tennis-specified agility test and 1600m-running test, there is no statistical difference between both groups. Conclusion: The research shows the specified strength and conditioning characteristic of female junior tennis players in different age level. In grip strength, Shuttle run test and medicine ball throwing, female tennis players below 18-years-old and 16-years-old are better than players below 14-years-old. In the sit-and-reach test, players below 18-years-old were better than players who below 16-years-old. In the 20m-sprint, vertical jump, tennis-specified agility test and 1600m-running test, there is a similar performance level between different age female tennis player.
