If one examines the issue of the future of emergency physicians in Taiwan, when this is discussed in terms of the individual there seems to be multiple aspects; however, from the emergency medicine perspective the outlook is more specific. The development of emergency medicine directly affects emergency physician's profession in a serious manner and therefore there is a need to pay significant attention to this subject, which makes discussion a necessity. By discussing the subject, we hope that young emergency physicians can begin to understand more explicitly their future direction. The following arose from our discussions. The question arose as to when emergency physicians begin to plan their professional career. Most individuals have a career plan that may have started in elementary school, and from this they establish a preliminary goal as ”my ambition”. If this goal is reached without many problems, then they start to plan their profession. Alternatively, some individuals only start their career plans as late as university graduation. I would suggest that if you want to become an emergency physician, then you must start to plan immediately. This article discusses the changes that are occurring in the environment of emergency medicine and the future trends in this area. It also includes the major areas that affect career planning for the different age groups of emergency physicians and includes some practical suggestions.
