In the 21st century, nurses are called nursing scholars, not only a learning person but also a health care provider to consumers. It has been 10 years since the Taiwan Nurses Association established the clinical ladder certification for nurses. Currently, 154 medical institutions have participated in this program. However, they do not endorse the certification among the institutions; in the consequences, other health care professionals do not identify this credentials nor the payment and benefits. Therefore, this article tries to introduce the history and the purpose of the clinical ladder certification system and then discuss the current research problems. Finally, the author proposes 8 suggestions regarding the future development of this clinical ladder certification through literature review and current situation analysis.
