Noise Reduction Analysis Using the Hilbert-Huang Transform and Wiener Filter

The purpose of this study is to utilize the synthesis procedure that combines the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) and the noise reduction algorithm, Wiener filter, for small microphone arrays to reduce noise in a noisy environment for the mobile phone. The HHT is used to eliminate the nonlinear mean shift and the Wiener filter is used to reduce the background noise. The main contributions of this paper are: i) this synthesis process indeed reduces some level of noise by combining the HHT and noise reduction algorithms, ii) the background noise can be the noise on the city street, and iii) this simulation using one omni-directional and one uni-directional MEMS microphones is conducted to prove that the noise reduction of this system, including algorithms and microphones, can be applied in the mobile phone.
