A COMPARISON STUDY OF BIM APPLICATION SURVEYSON DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTION PRIVATE SECTORS IN TAIWAN

For the past few years, the Building Information Modeling (BIM) technique hasbeen acceptedgradually in the construction industry in Taiwan. Some public sectorshave proposed a lot of policies and actionplans for promoting BIM implementation. However, different construction project stakeholders received different benefits and impacts from implementing BIM technique in their projects. It is necessary to really understand BIM implementation status, receivedbenefits and encountered difficulties by different construction project stakeholderswhen considering promoting BIM technique. This study investigated the status quo by questionnaire surveys on private sectors (construction development firms, architects, construction consultant firms and construction firms) in the construction industry. Based on 399 responses from two surveys, this study found that the ratio of private sector with BIM applications is increased. However, some important findings, including construction development firms ignore the value of BIM in operation and maintenance phase, architects faced the problems of high implementation cost and no suitable evaluation way, construction consultant firms recognized good BIM values butfaced implementation problems and construction firm anticipated comprehensive BIM values but faced the problems of insufficient training and shortage of BIM-enable staffs, should be addressed in the future. Hopefully, the information concluded in this study would be a basis for the government and the private sector to evaluate BIM implementation in the future.
