The Brazilian new health system (SUS-Unified Health System) includes Leisure as a constitutive element in the social production of health. In this context leisure must contribute for the people's wellbeing and for a healthy society, incorporating values such as solidarity, collectivism and public goods. In this sense, leisure might be viewed as a major contributor to the promotion of health through the facilitation of access to structured and unstructured activities. This article discusses the inclusion of leisure in the health system and, as a consequence, the need for leisure and health professionals to plan, implement and evaluate leisure activities putting into perspective the social and comminatory production of health.
