In the history of Northern Song Dynasty, no one faced banishments and setbacks as harshly as Su Shi. As a sacrifice of political storms, the frustration and disappointment of being banished and the challenges of living in exile highlighted Su Shi's life philosophy. In the history, many great minds shared the same fate. However, each individual responded to the predicaments in his or her own way as they had different life experiences, thinking, and humanistic accomplishments. Su Shi's exile ended in 1100. After 7 unresting and life-threatening years, Su Shi developed a connection with Buddhism. Apart from Taoism, Buddhist ideologies also offered Su Shi a settling place. Su Shi's transcendence and peacefulness in the midst of sufferings are values that people in this rapidly-changing world pursue after.
