An Exploration of Rehabilitation Counseling and the Professional Ethics Education

In counseling and other helping professions, practitioners should follow the ethical codes when delivering services. Ethics is considered to be the required professional knowledge and competence in the helping profession, in order to offer better services to the clients and ensure their welfare. In addition to practitioners, professionals in training should alsoobtain knowledge, sensitivity, reasoning skills, and decision-making skills regarding ethics through various channels in the training program. Therefore, these future professionals will be prepared to face and handle ethical dilemmas when entering the field. The ethical behavior is not only to protect the clients, but also to protect the profession as well as the service providers. With the primacy that the rehabilitation counseling profession in Taiwan acknowledges the importance of ethics in practice, the ethical codes for vocational rehabilitation practitioners was established after decades of the profession. Considering the long term development of the profession, it is hoping the revision of the ethical codes and the planning of ethics education can be addressed and discussed within the profession in the future.
