The development and preliminary exploration of the self-efficacy scale of online learning for junior high school students

This research formulated the on-line learning self-efficacy scale questionnaire based on literature review and related empirical research. Students in a certain junior high school in Kaohsiung City were enrolled as the subjects for the questionnaire survey, we adopted item analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) as data processing and analysis. In addition to confirming the connotation framework, the reliability and validity of the on-line learning self-efficacy scale questionnaire, this study also discussed the influence of different backgrounds of junior high school students on the on-line learning task self-efficacy. Meanwhile, we also inspected the relationships among dimensions, including Technology use, On-line learning tasks, The instructor and peer interaction and communication, and Self-regulation and motivation in the on-line learning self-efficacy scale. The research results found that (1) The on-line learning self-efficacy scale formulated by this research shows good reliability and validity, and it is suitable for junior high school students. (2) In terms of variables of different genders, girls showed significantly better performances on the overall on-line learning self-efficacy than boys did, indicating that girls' learning maturity is higher than boys in the learning stage of junior high schools. (3) In terms of variables of different grades, students of Grade Nine were significantly better only in the technology use than those of Grade Eight, indicating that students of senior grades are less proficient at network technologies and less experienced than students of junior grades. As to dimensions, such as On-line learning tasks, The instructor and peer interaction and communication, and Self-regulation and motivation, students in Grade Seven were significantly better than those in Grade Eight, indicating that students in Grade Seven have higher learning motives and wills. (4) As to the relationships among the dimensions of on-line learning self-efficacy, only that of on-line learning tasks was significantly higher than other dimensions, indicating that students in junior high schools mainly aim to complete on-line learning tasks. This research proposed related research suggestions based on the research results to help with the future exploration of the online learning achievements of students in junior high schools.
