The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference among the background variable, the role stress and the burnout of high school PE teachers. The population included 386 high school PE teachers in Taipei. Manova analysis indicates significant differences among high school PE teachers for their genders, ages, educational backgrounds, coach/administration duties, role stresses and burnouts. The Multiple Comparison (Scheffe) analysis indicates that those male teachers, graduated from the physical education college or university with coaching/administration duty, appeared more Role Conflict and Role Ambiguity and high levels of burnout. The researcher provided recommendations for high schools to lower their PE teachers' burnouts. Moreover, the recommendations for further study were also provided.
