The objectives of this study were to compare the growth, development and nutrient absorption between self-grafted plant and seedling plant of Tainung No. 2 papaya. Results showed that the self-grafted treatment had some characteristics, such as shortened and sturdy plant, lowered the bearing position, faster development of leaves and higher chlorophyll content of leaf in cool season, which were compared to seedling plants. Grafted treatment also could improve the absorption of Ca nutrient, and reflect the higher Ca and P content in leaves than seedling plants. According to the more fibrous root system and aerial part to underground part ratio were less in self-grafted plants than seedling plants, meaning the grafted treatment could enhance the capacity of anti-wind.
