'Taichung 1' is a new leafy radish variety developed by Taichung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, COA. by segregating Japanese F1 hybrid variety 'Mei-Liuh'. It was registered and released in 2004. Its commercial name is 'Green Jade'. It is an open-pollinated variety and is mainly used for leafy purpose. The plants of 'Taichung 1' are about 32 cm in height with 7.5 leaves per plant when being ready for harvest. The leaf shape of this new variety is narrow and oblong with shallow split margin. The leaves are green in color with no hairs on the surface. It tasted tender and less piquant in flavor. 'Taichung 1' has performed well in all major growing areas in Taiwan and can be sown all year round. It has short growing period and can be harvested about 25 days after sowing in summer season and about 30 days in winter season. The average yield of leaves was 2,804 kg/0.1 ha.
