In order to increase the yield of job's-tears in Taiwan, 9 varieties (lines) of job's-tear were introduced during 1996. In observation trials, the variety Chuannong line showed superior agronomic traits and higher productivity to other tested varieties. A line Taichung No. 6 was selected through mass selection procedure and joined new lines comparison trials during 1999-2002. Due to the supreme agronomic performance and yield of this line, it was further put in new lines regional trials during 2003-2004. Cultivation method experiment, quality determination and pest resistant tests were subsequently conducted during 2003-2005. The line shows many supreme agronomic characters including shorter plant height, lodging resistance, higher tiller number per m^2, can be planted in high density, higher percentage of fertility grain, and resulted in higher yield. The grain crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber and ash of this line were higher than the control line Taichung No. 1. The line was approved and registered as Taichung No. 2 in July 7, 2006 and extended to farmers.
