To improve the yield per unit area of Job's tears, 41 varieties (lines) were introduced from Japan in 1983. The results of introduction line test showed that "Song-Hu" had the characteristics of stronger tillering ability, good fertility and high grain yield. In 1991, a superior line selected by mass selection method, was subjected to preliminary yield test and regional trials. Finally it was named as Job's tears Taichung No. 4 in Dec., 2017. The variety has lower plant height and spikelet position. The plant height is about 152.5-185.7 cm, which is shorter than the control variety Taichung No. 3 (158.9-187.2 cm). In conclusion, the Taichung No. 4 is a high yield variety (3,070-4,747 kg/ha) with resistance to lodging, and suitable for mechanical harvesting.
