The ancient famous classical recipe Da-Chai-Hu-Tang (or Major Bupleurum Decoction) which was recorded in the Chinese Medical Classic ”Shang Han Lun” (The Epidemiological Classic) and Jin-Gui-Yao-Lue (Medical Treasures of the Golden Chamber) by Chinese Physician Dr. Zhong-Jing Zhang in Eastern Han dynasty. The medications are composed of Xiao-Chai-Hu-Tang (or Minor Bupleurum Decoction) and Xiao-Cheng-Qi-Tang (or Minor Qi-Infusing Decoction). This formula is used to treat diseases of combined pathological patterns of lesser yang disease and yang ming disease, or the repletion heat in lesser yang of gallbladder viscera. In this article, we analyze the ancient individual compositions of Da-Chai-Hu-Tang (or Major Bupleurum Decoction) and their modern pharmacological effects to explore the clinical applications of Da-Chai-Hu-Tang(or Major Bupleurum Decoction).
