Objectives: Health literacy is a crucial part of both public and personal health. It can also be regarded as essential to patient-centered care. However, the domestic health literacy on environmental hormones-plasticizers is lacking. The purpose of this research is to develop and test the reliability and validity of a health literacy scale for plasticizers. Methods: A cross-sectional research design was adopted, and 114 obstetrics and gynecology outpatients of a teaching hospital in Taipei, who were concerned about the issue of environmental hormones-plasticizers, were recruited as subjects of study. We developed an environmental hormone-plasticizer health literacy scale based on the core aspects of Sørensen's health literacy integration model after reviewing related scales and studies. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, content validation by experts, confirmatory factor analysis, criterion-related validity, and known-group validity. Results: The Environmental Hormone-Plasticizer Health Literacy Scale consists of ten questions with a maximum score of 40 points. The content validity index, as determined by five experts, was 0.93. Cronbach's alpha was 0.90, indicating that there is good internal consistency and reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated good construct validity. In addition, validity was also supported by criterion-related validity, which had a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.59 (p<0.001) and convergent validity. According to known-group validity findings, women with higher education levels possessed higher health literacy. Conclusions: The Environmental Hormone-Plasticizer Health Literacy Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool. It may be used as an evaluation tool for health education intervention programs in the future.
