Influence of Cement dust from Cement Factory on the Growth, Yield and Quality of Vegetables

並列摘要

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of cement dust pollution on vegetable growth, yield and quality, and to formulate a criterion of compensation based on this experimental data for farmers and manufacturers. Ginger, welsh onion and spinach were grown and treated with different rates of cement dust in I-Lan area in 1985. The results of the experiment indicated that vegetables suffered from severe pollution of cement dust were greatly affected on growth, yield and quality, due to the formation of a film or a crust by cement dust which decreased photosynthesis and growth. Correlation coefficent (r) between rates of cement dust and yields of vegetables were-0.980** for ginger, -0.995** for welsh onion, and -0.878** for spinach. The commercial prices of affected spinach and welsh onion were decreased greatly, even without any commerical value, but that of ginger was less affected. There was a trend, the higher the rate of cement dust, the lower the yields of vegetables.
