Enumeration of the Planar Non-fractionated Kinematic Chains with up to Six Basic Loops

It is of great importance in the conceptual creative design of mechanical products and systems to synthesize all feasible topological structures of kinematic chains. This paper proposes a computer-aided method to synthesize all the non-fractionated kinematic chains up to six basic loops. First, the contracted graphs of kinematic chains are classified according to their planarity, and all the planar-graph and non-planar-graph contracted graphs are generated. Then, synthesis constraint equations sets and simplified characteristic codes of topological graphs are provided, respectively. All the planar non-fractionated kinematic chains with up to six basic loops are obtained for the first time. The comparative analysis with existing results in literature is also conducted, illustrating the effectiveness of the method.
