Analysis and Robust Design of Geometric Accuracy of a Three-Axis CNC Surface Grinding Machine

In order to improve the machining reliability of three-axis CNC surface grinding machine, according to the key issue of machining accuracy, this paper proposed a geometric accuracy analysis and design method. A geometric error propagation model was established based on multi-body system theory and homogeneous coordinate transformation method. The model was verified by experiment that it has ideal prediction accuracy. Key geometric errors were analyzed by using orthogonal design and parameter test of DOE methods. After cost analyzing and error tracing, a cost-quality model for key geometric error variables was established based on robust design theory. At last tolerances of key geometric error variables were distributed according to this model. The results show that the method can realize the economic and reasonable distribution of the geometric accuracy and then improve the machining accuracy of the grinder, and ultimately improve the machining reliability of the grinder.
