Study of Surface Tribology Properties in High Speed and Heavy Load Ball Screw

並列摘要

Due to the requirements of precision platform applications on semi-conductor and mechanical equipments, the developments of high-performance transmission ability ball screw has become important progressively. However, the actual phenomena within the contact surface of ball screw are hard to be observed and measured. In this paper, a two-ring testing machine was used to simulate the contact mechanism of ball screw under high sliding speed and heavy load conditions. Experiments were performed for various friction coefficients, electric resistances of oil film, ball screw material temperatures, lubrication oil temperatures, and particle additive ratio. The experiment results of specific film thickness and contact electric resistance indicated that the boundary lubrication phenomena occurred within the contact interface of ball screw under heavy load and intermediate low sliding speeds, in which the Stribeck curve gradually moved down-left during the experiments. The wear rate chart shows how the material and roughness properties affect the wear volume and operation duration of ball screw under different loads. The experiment results also showed that adding particle additive to the lubrication oil will affect the lubrication regime of contact surface. Consequently, reduce wear, temperature and roughness of the friction surface.
