Configuration Modeling and Interior Force Analysis of Deployable Tensegrity

This study shows that some bars and strings with fixed length can be used to construct a deployable tensegrity and analyze its parameters' change in the deploying process. The deployable tensegrity is an ideal structure to be used as a support frame for the space antenna on account of its characteristic of lightweight and absence of hinges. Node vector of the tensegrity prism is derived and then leads to the acquisition of the connectivity matrix and member vectors. In the similar way, the configuration modeling of the deployable tensegrity ring is then established. The deploying process of tensegrity ring is equivalent to a continuous transformation of the states of interior force equilibrium. Without external forces, We particularly establish the balance equation of forces at each node belonging to a 6-bar tensegrity ring and an 2n-bar tensegrity ring further. In this process, a equilibrium condition is obtained by force density method. This condition of configuration parameters help to analyze the transformation of the deployable tensegrity ring.
