荷據福爾摩莎中期(1644-1650)教育實況之探討-教會跨洋衝突之真相分析

摘要


荷據時代荷蘭人在宗教及教育上貢獻最大的,是在此服務14年的第二任牧師尤羅伯。他回國後不久,福爾摩莎教會認為尤羅伯在荷蘭批判福爾摩莎教會傳教不力,教育式微,因而嚴厲還擊。還擊過程中,福爾摩莎教會極力貶抑尤羅伯的服務,並留下許多頌揚尤羅伯回國後福爾摩莎宗教與教育成功的記錄。本文研究有以下發現:第一,退休蟄居荷蘭的尤羅伯,並沒有批評褔爾摩莎教會。第二,尤羅伯回國後的宗教和教育事務退步了,其成功的記錄是虛假的。第三,福爾摩莎教會1646年所重編的教材,違反正統的喀爾文主義。第四,福爾摩莎教會實施荷語教學,肇因於牧師們不懂原住民方言不得不而為的權宜措施。

The person who made the greatest contribution to the preaching and education in Formosa during the period of Dutch colonization was Rev. Robert Junius, the second minister who had stayed in Formosa for more than 14 years. After his returning homeland at the end of 1643, the Consistory of Formosa strictly devalued his contribution, because they thought Rev. Junius, being enjoying a sound reputation in Dutch at that time, criticized their works in Formosa. The Consistory therefore boasted their success of the preaching and education. This point of view that Junius indeed criticized them is popular among many researchers nowadays. Based on the English version of 1903 Formosa under the Dutch, translated by Rev. William Campbell, the present author found that the Consistory of Formosa made a mistake by wrong attribution. Rev. Junius had never criticized them. The author also found that the preaching and educational affairs in Formosa were not so successful as they declared.
