The article focuses on the nanocomposite resins and coatings via a sol-gel process prepared nano materials. The process possesses many advantages including low synthesis temperature, large area coating possibility, low equipment cost and has been applied in many commercial products. It uses metal alkoxides as precursors and involves the evolution of inorganic networks through the formation of a colloidal suspension (sol) and gelation of the sol to form a network in a continuous liquid phase (gel). Furthermore, the combination of organic and inorganic hybrid components could match various applications and create many functions including easy clean, hard-coating, anti-reflection, anti-fingerprint, high refractive index and low refractive index etc. It increases the physical and optical performances to benefit the applications and varieties.
