The focus of this paper is to discuss the relationship between man and nature as presented in the I-Ching, attempting to read it from the perspective of modern environmental ethics. The paper considers how to resolve current perceptions about the most commonly encountered problems of people and the environment. Concepts of “Earth ethics” and “ecology” are used as a reference for interpretation, and are cross-referenced, in order to explore the deep implications for environmental philosophy and environmental ethics concealed within the "Book of Changes". Reading in this vein, I hope to offer a new interpretation of the I-Ching that gives practical impetus to the achievement of environmental conservation.
