Recreational Sports Constraints as a Mediator between Psychological Well-Being and Negotiation Strategies

The present study examines the mediation effects of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and structural constraints on the relations between psychological well-being and six negotiation strategies among Taiwanese adults with Type II diabetes (N=283). The findings support that intrapersonal constraints were strong positive mediators while structural constraints were weak negative mediators between psychological well-being and the different negotiation strategies. The findings reveal the interconnected nature of the relationships between constraints and negotiation as evidenced in previous studies, while providing a more complete view of how psychological well-being influences different negotiation strategies in multiple ways. Implications for health and leisure professionals regarding how to develop a constraint-specific approach to physical activity promotion interventions are also addressed.
