Treatment of Pd(PPh_3)_4 with phenylchlorothiocarbonate, PhOC(=S)C1, in dichloromethane at -20 produces the oxidative addition palladium complex [Pd(PPh_3)_2(ŋ^1-SCOPh)(C1)], 2 with releasing two triphenylphosphine ligands. The ^(31)P{^1H} NMR spectra of complex 2 shows the dissociation of either the chloride or the triphenylphosphine ligand to form complex [Pd(PPh_3)_2(ŋ^2-SCOPh)][Cl], 3 or the dipalladium complex [Pd(PPh_3)C1]_2(ŋ^2-SCOPh)_2, 4. Complex 2 is characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis.
