This article described the nursing experience of caring for a 53-year old man with hepatocellular carcinoma treated with partial hepatectomy. The nursing period was from October, 5 to 16, 2013. The authors used Gordon´s eleven health functional patterns to evaluate and collect information. By the way of interview, observation, and physical assessment, the data collected indicated that the patient had nursing problems including unbalanced nutrition, anxiety, acute pain, and potentially hazardous infection. The authors maintained a good nurse-patient partnership with the patient by providing supporting, taking care, coaching, and advocating, especially calling for help from nutritionists and multidisciplinary team, including physicians, pharmacists, anesthetists, registered nurses, and case managers. Eventually, the patient´s anxiety ameliorated and underwent the hepatectomy smoothly, and learnt how to self-care after having hepatocellular carcinoma, despite removed, by the way of living a good life style and adhering to followingup.
