摘要

佛教學術在台灣的成長發展，乃是1960年代漸漸開始的事。四十年來在台灣的期刊雜誌中，雖偶有論述性的佛教論文，而最具代表性的，則當數《華岡佛學學報》及《中華佛學學報》，由這兩份學報為中心，凝聚了海內外的學者們，從事佛教論文的撰寫。從《華岡佛學學報》第四期至《中華佛學學報》第四期，在時間上是次第相承的，先後共計十一個年頭，集合了四十四位學者，發表了一一八篇論文。其中包括中國佛教史學、禪學、淨土學、華嚴學、魏晉佛學、天台學、唯識學、中觀學、中印佛學、西藏佛學、佛教藝術等。供稿較多的，則為冉雲華、曹仕邦、劉貴傑、陳玉蛟、李志夫、楊惠南、陳清香、以及我自己。在四十四位學者中，華人佔了三十七位，更可喜的是，除了研究中國佛教，我們也有了研究藏傳佛教、南傳佛教以及梵文原典的人才。

The academic study of Buddhism in Taiwan began in the '60s and has been developing gradually since. For the past forty years, there have been local periodicals which publish papers on Buddhist subjects. The most representative were Hwa-Kang Buddhist Journal and Chung-Hwa Buddhist Journal which offered scholars at home and abroad a forum and gave them incentive to write Buddhiological papers. Eleven years have lapsed between the publication of Hwa-Kang Buddhist Journal No.4 and Chung-Hwa Buddhist Journal No.4. Within this period of time, forty-four scholars published 118 articles in these periodicals covering the history of Chinese Buddhism, Ch'an, Pure Land, Hua-Yan, Buddhism of the Wei-Chin Period, Tian-tai, Yogacara, Madhyamika, Sino-Indian Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, Buddhist art, etc. The most prolific contribution were Jan Yun-hua, Tso Sze-bong, Liou Guei-jie, Chen Yu-jiau, Li Chih-fu, Yang Huei-nan, Chen Ching-shiang, and myself. It is gratifying that thirty-seven among those forty-four scholars are ethnic Chinese, and particularly that we have not only specialists in Chinese Buddhism, but also scholars in Tibetan Buddhism, Theravada and Sanskrit texts.
