"Buddhism for this World" promoted by Master Yinshun is the mainstream thought of Buddhism in contemporary Taiwan. Many Buddhist organizations including Dharma Drum Mountain are inspired by this thought and develop properously. The charactistics of "Buddhism for this World" are based on the humanitarianism of Agama Sutras and the loving-kindness and compassion of early Mahayana Buddhism towards all sentient beings. Therefore, the "Buddhism for this World" is a movement, in certain aspects, of "returning to the India's primitive Buddhism and early Mahayana Buddhism." The proposing of this movement was inspired by Liang Shuming, a neo-Confucianist school in early 20th century with the color of humanitarianism and the loving-kindness and compassion sentiments, the "Buddhism for this World" has, obviously, the characteristic of "applying Confucianism into Buddhism." This paper aims to explain this subtle relationship between the "Buddhism for this World" and neo-Confucianism. In addition, the paper also compares it with Upasaka O-yang Jing-wu's movement of "Returning to India's cittamatra Buddhism" during the same period. The latter didn't develop well. The major reason: It never applies Confucianism into Buddhism.
