The National Taiwan Science Education Center (NTSEC) holds traveling exhibitions and activities to promote science education in cities, counties and remote areas around Taiwan, making use of vans, educational kits, exploration programs, science experiments, and demonstrations. The aim of this study is to understand the impact of these exhibitions and activities on targeted participants' motivation towards science learning. A review of the literature was carried out and a survey of 200 participants was conducted to determine their motivation towards science learning (Tuan et al., 2005). Motivation towards science learning was higher following participation in a traveling exhibition. Scores were highest for "science learning value" (SLV) and lowest for "non-performance goal-oriented" (NPG). Moreover, there was a significantly higher level of motivation towards science learning among males than among females. The results of this study serve as an important reference for informal science education institutions in terms of developing strategies and future directions for science-themed traveling exhibitions.
