Collaborations between museums and elementary schools are important museum educational goals. As new technologies are brought into the museum context, applying these technologies to such collaborations becomes possible. The subject of this study is the National Palace Museum’s educational outreach programs in rural elementary schools across Taiwan. Document analysis was carried out to explore the trends in digital applications in museum-school collaborations and to evaluate the pros and cons of the applications of online film, virtual reality, and 3D printing to educational programs. Case study and participant observation were conducted to elucidate the advantages, conditions, and difficulties related to the effective integration of online film, virtual reality, and 3D printing in museum-school programs. The five phase generic ADDIE Model was applied to analyze, develop, design, implement, and evaluate. Finally, suggestions for incorporating IT applications into museum-school collaborations in Taiwan are provided.
