RECORDS OF MELON-HEADED WHALES, PEPONOCEPHALA ELECTRA (GRAY, 1846), FROM THE WATERS OF TAIWAN

摘要
Although there have been reports of the melon-headed whale, Peponocephala electra (Gray. 1846), from Taiwan waters, almost nothing is known of this species in this region. We present recent (and the first) observations of free -ranging melon-headed whales in Taiwan waters and measurements of some external morphological characters from a freshly dead specimen captured from the waters of northeast Taiwan. Earlier records of this species in Taiwan arc reviewed and discussed as well.
