並列摘要

The academic significance of Prof. Gu Weimin's newly published book, A History of Christian Art in China (During the Period of Tang, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties), consists in filling up the gaps in the studies of the history of Christianity in China, enriching the studies in Christianity in China, and widening the studies of Christianity in China or worldwide. The significance of this supplementary work lies not only in uncovering the long-forgotten part of the Chinese art history-Christian art in China-but also in exhibiting the richness and diversity of Chinese culture in supplementation of the World art history. This book objectively describes, by phenomenological description, the development of Christian art in China chronologically from Tang, Yuan, Ming through Qing, grasping the indigenous character of Christianity in China throughout the description. The potential significance of this book lies in facilitating our appreciation of the harmonious relationship between Christianity and Chinese culture and of the relationship between Christianity and Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism in their conception of art.
