Reexamination on Masao Abe's Comparative Studies of Zen and Heidegger and the Inter-religious Dialogue of Buddhism and Christianity

並列摘要

In our contemporary world, many religious and spiritualities stand in need of greater intercommunication and cooperation. Masao Abe's "Kenotic God and Dynamic Sunyata" is very famous to contemporary dialogues of Buddhism and Christianity. Suchocki summarizes the writings of the earlier respondent to Abe's article and wonders if they really represent "dialogue". Moltmann and the other theologians interpret Zen Buddhism in Christian categories. In place of sunyata as a model, Suchocki turns to the Trinity as inspiration and justification for this dialogue. After a short discussion on the Masao Abe's inter-religious article and the following western theologians' responses, my article tackles the Abe's pre-understanding of Heidegger and Nietzsche and reexamines his strategy of his "dialogue". My reexamination includes three basic perspectives: (I) some of thought of Being in late Heidegger is neglected by Abe; (2) The dynamic sunyata must be exposited in the background of the Onto-Hermeneutics of the theory of Buddha-nature in eastern Asian Buddhism; (3) The relationship between Abe and other philosopher of Kyoto school and its approach must be tackled.
