This essay aims to typologize intellectuals who study Christianity in China today according to their different religious experiences in the Christian faith. Three types of scholars are represented in the study, namely, the "SMSC" (Scholars in China Studying Christianity), the "CCSS" (Cultural Christian Studies Scholars) and the "CS" (Christian Scholars). Personal experience of divine -human encounter which differentiates Christianity from other religions distinguishes CS from CCSS and SMSC. Nevertheless, all of them have their unique contributions to the studies of Christian religion despite their respective inadequacies. While CS acquire a theological understanding on an in-depth level, CCSS and SMSC implement their findings more extensively in the public sphere of academia.
