To begin this lecture delivered at the Institute of Sino-Christian Studies in July 2007, the author delineated the origin of Christian Studies in China in the early 20th century and its death between 1949 and 1978. Then he characterized the trends of the first generation of Chinese Scholars in this field since 1978 as " from the religious to the political, from the revolutionary to the reflective" , the trends of the second generation as " from knowing to understanding, from seeking to harvesting" , and those of the third as "from learning to specializing, from interest to commitment". In the conclusion, he pointed out that the Chinese Christian Studies is quite far away from the social condition of common Chinese, very weak in biblical studies and biblical theology, and should pay more attention to the cultural pluralism and so-called "glocalization" of the world; then he put forward three corresponding suggestions which are necessary to the advancement of Chinese Christian Studies.
