Huang's book chooses Wuzhuang, a village in Northwest China as the fieldwork place and research object. The book features its exploitation of research fields, the precise topic, originality of the methods, and the rationality of scenes selection. On the scale and depth, there are few religious anthropology research works to be compared with Huang's book until now. In addition, the rich historical accounts and detailed field investigation make the features more distinctive. Participant observation and in-depth interviews are the major forms of the field work. But in the field work, Huang's book could have done a better job in terms of the in-depth observation, experience of the local culture, belief and life, and perception of the nuances of the people under research.
