Ying Lianzhi was a Confucian intellectual. He was baptized in 1888. Even as a Catholic, he is still attached to the traditional Chinese culture. In his famous work, Wansongyeren Yanshanlu (Worthy Words by Wansongyeren), we can see his humanistic spirit. In order to awaken the conscience of Chinese people and help them, he referenced and quoted not only the works written by the Jesuits who came to China in late Ming, such as Matteo Ricci, Johann Adam Schall von Bell and Diego de Pantoja, but also the works written by the famous Confucian intellectuals such as Confucius, Mencius, Zhu Xi, Wang Yangming and so on. Ying, who embodied both traditional Chinese and western religious traditions, dedicated himself to the integration between Christianity and Chinese culture.
