Clubroot of cruciferous vegetables

並列摘要

Clubroot of cruciferous vegetables is caused by the obligate parasite Plasmodiophora brassicae resulting in yield losses in Taiwan. This article discusses clubroot symptoms, the causal pathogen, diagnosis, and management strategies. An increase of soil pH by adding S-H mixture, mineral ash, or calcium carbonate could reduce the clubroot incidence. Soil application of lime mixed with shrimp and crab shell powder or chitosan also could effectively suppress the disease. Recent studies have identified a Bacillus mycoides strain that could effectively reduce clubroot incidence when applied 7 days before or after planting.
