Professor Ching-ITu has been teaching at Rutgers University in the United States for over forty years. He founded the Chinese program, chaired the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures for a long time, and has been the Director of Confucius Institute at Rutgers for several years. This paper is an edited version of the oral history of Professor Tu. In chronological order, it records the continuous development of Chinese studies at Rutgers in the last few decades and is a primary source for researching the history of Chinese studies in contemporary America.
