荀學價值根源問題的探討

A Study of the Learning of Hsun T'zu

並列摘要

Because of its assertion of the evilness of human-nature, Hsun Tzu has aroused various misunderstanding. Scholars generally like to divide the mind and the nature of man that Hsun Tzu said into two: categories (1) human-nature is confined to animal instincts and (2) mind is confined to the mind of cognition, and so the learning of Hsun Tzu cannot solve the problem "If human-nature is evil, how can li (rite) and yi (righteousness) be derived?" Therefore scholars merely consider the li and yi that Hsun Tzu said as external authority or objective actuality, lacking in the basis of internal nature and mind, and hence cannot adequately expound human-nature. This article presents a discussion on this point of view. The author points out that the nature that Hsun Tzu said is neither confined to animal instincts, nor the mind of cognition. The sage ordained li and yi and therefore moral standard is derived and based on human-nature.
