唐代方鎮使府之文職僚佐

THE CIVIL STAFFS OF THE MILITARY GOVERNORS IN THE T'ANG DYNASTY

並列摘要

The staffs under the Military Governors of the T'ang dynasty were of two branches: one civil and the other military. The T'ung-tien 通典 (a Historical Encyclopedia by Tu Yu 杜佑) and the Pai kuan chih 百官志 (the Treatise on Public Functionaries) in the Hsin T'ang-shu 新唐書 (the New History of the T'ang Dynasty) record the organization of the civil staff only, while no mention is made of that of the military. Discussing the ranks and duties of the military staff, I wrote an article entitled Higher Officers under the Military Governors of the T'ang Dynasty, which appeared in the Symposium in Honour of Dr. Li Chi on His Seventieth Birthday published by the Tsing-hua Journal in Taiwan. On the basis of the two works mentioned above, the present article makes a detailed study of the civil staff, tracing the historical evolution of their functions and status and emending textual errors in reference to them. I hope that this will be of some use to students of the Military Governorship in the T'ang period.
