Carbon fiber composite materials have advantages such as light weight, high strength and corrosion resistance, and are widely used in various industries such as aerospace, transportation, automobiles, sports equipment, 3C products, wind power generation, and civil engineering application. This research is to discuss development of an automation equipment for laser carbon fiber composite lamination. Laser is used for the laminating of carbon fiber composites. The high energy generated by the laser instantly heats up the carbon fiber tape, melts it, and presses it for lamination. The automated carbon fiber placement equipment includes an automatic roll-to-roll conveyer of prepreg carbon fibers, a carbon fiber rolling module, a carbon fiber tape cutting module, and a laser heating module. This equipment is thought to provide the rapid production and improve the stability of process.
