In 2013, the EU announced ban on animal testing for cosmetics, and Taiwan as a member of global society also announced legislation to ban the aforesaid testing in 2016. ITRI develops automated 3D bio-printing equipment, which can be applied to produce full-thickness skin tissues, with capabilities to provide precise material and cell layout; precise printing environment control; maintain cell viability; overcome the cultivation and differentiation problems during each printing stage. By using this technology, we can successfully complete the skin tissue automated 3D printing, function verification, and animal experiments of the product. This technology can be used as testing material for cosmetics and skin-care products in the future; it can also be added with stem cells to develop the artificial skin for burned wounds and massive production with 3D printing to provide industrial benefits.
