《春秋事語》校釋

A Textual and Exegetical Study of the Silk Manuscript of the Ch'un - Ch'iu Shih - yü

並列摘要

In this paper, I attempt to collate and annotate the Ch'un-ch'iu Shih-yu, a silk manuscript unearthed from the No. 3 tomb at Ma-wang-tui on the outskirts of Changsha, Hunan province, in 1973. The text is seriously damaged, and missing words and incomplete sentences appear throughout. By comparison with other Pre-Ch'in historical documents, I attempt in this paper to supply the missing words and correct various errors in the manuscript. A transcription of the Ch'un-ch'iu Shih-yu has been published in Wen-wu (No. 1, 1977). lt is regarded as an important source of information concerning Pre-Ch'in historical events. My comparison of this document with other texts, such as the Tso Chuan, the Kung-yang Chuan, and the Ku-liang Chuan, shows that only chapter two, a story between Yen 燕and Chin 晉, and a discussion of that war between an officer of Yen and his follower, may be regarded as hitherto missing material in this collection of Pre-Ch'in documents.
